A new headphone amplifier from Bryston Limited, named the BHA-1 for “Bryston Headphone Amplifier” is expected to be released in the Fall of 2011. The BHA-1 has been developed to meet the needs for pro-studios that use higher-impendence headphones and therefore, require more power / gain to drive them optimally. Audio enthusiasts that have high-impendence audiophile headphones will also find the BHA-1’s capabilities attractive.

The BHA-1 will be of a dual mono design, utilizing a Noble volume pot; fully discrete class A Bryston op amps; paralleled 4-pin stereo and dual left / right fully balanced 3-pin outputs plus standard 6.3mm and 3.5mm sockets. In addition, the new headphone amp will offer 14dB of circuit gain; ±33V rails and; 50k input impedance.

The BHA-1 can be used as a stand-alone headphone interface, utilizing its internal power supply or alternatively, it can be used with Bryston’s optional MPS-2 external power supply for an even lower noise floor. At present, only a 17” wide prototype has been seen; however, it is expected that a 19” and 19” rack-mount version will be made available.
